Sports equipment needed for schools in Belize!
October 16th 2011 was the official deadline for collecting items for this appeal. However, the final item to be squeezed into the van was not delivered until the evening of Tuesday 25th October, but it was worth waiting for - a complete trampoline, no less! This was the generous donation of David Millross, a 13 year-old member of St Hilda's Church, Smethwick.
Three other special items donated earlier should be noted: the bulk of the theological library of Dr Michael Taylor, one-time Director of Christian Aid; two complete new strips for a football teams from a club in Stourbridge; two complete cricket kits from Sutton Coldfield.
The next day a team from St Hilda’s loaded the van and John Wilkinson and his friend and brother priest Peter Spencer drove it to Toby and Madi Marchand's vicarage in Bishop’s Stortford. On October 27th John, Peter, Madi and Toby loaded donations collected at Bishop's Stortford and the Birmingham load onto a second van which Toby and Madi then drove to Portsmouth. Here it was loaded onto pallets by the staff of Fyffe's Bananas and taken to their ship, the Emerald. The Emerald is due at Big Creek in southern Belize at 6am on November 14th.
