Tropical Storm Albert

Hi,

We had a tropical storm Albert affect us over the weekend and although it was not a full fledged hurricane it was a disaster for the south of the country and will greatly affect Belize's economy in a negative manner. Tons of rain came down. Roads were washed out and a vital bridge on the Southern Highway was completely washed away.( This bridge is used to transport Belize's oil to the southern port for export as well as is in the middlle of the banana and citrus industries and is on the only road route to the Toledo District.Right now the south of the country is completely cut off by road. At least 6 persons lost their lives. Many families lost everything they ownedIt is really a tragedy as there was no warning as to how bad this storm could have been.

There was a loss of many agricultural crops including the rice harvest which was just about to be reaped. The floods have also affected the north of the country.

We are hoping that this is our quota for this hurricane season.

The Diocese of Belize asks that you keep all those persons who have been affected in your prayers. If you wish to donate to our Relief Fund please send your donations to the Anglican Diocese of Belize, P.O. Box 535, Belize City , Belize.
